The Danish child vaccination program is an offer to all children for free vaccination against 10 infectious diseases.

If a child follows the Danish vaccination program, the child is well protected against these 10 diseases:

  1. Diphtheria, which i.a. can cause severe and life-threatening sore throat.

  2. Tetanus (tetanus), which can be obtained after wound infection and result in a life-threatening seizure condition.

  3. Whooping cough (pertussis), which can be serious especially in very young children.

  4. Polio that can cause permanent paralysis.

  5. Hib infection (Hemophilus influenzae type b), which can lead to meningitis (inflammation of the meninges) or laryngitis.

  6. Pneumococcal disease (caused by certain types of pneumococcus) that can lead to blood poisoning and meningitis.

  7. Measles (morbilli), which causes high fever, cough, cold, eye irritation and rash as well as the risk of serious complications, such as pneumonia or encephalitis.

  8. Mumps (parotitis epidemica), which causes swollen salivary glands and mild fever and can lead to meningitis (meningitis) or testicular inflammation as well as permanent injuries.

  9. Rubella, which causes a slight fever, swollen glands and rash. Infection of pregnant women within the first three months of pregnancy can lead to miscarriage or birth defects.

  10. Cervical cancer, anal cancer and genital warts caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. HPV infections occur in over 100 different subtypes. Some of these types cause warts, other types cause genital warts (condyloma), and certain carcinogenic types are the cause of cervical and anal cancer.
